Tabletops Are for Gaming. And Food!

Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by and reading my first post. In this post, I will discuss a few interesting things about modern tabletop gaming, what you can expect from the blog and a few words about me specifically. The world is a crowded and noisy place, I will not be producing content (in any format) that is of little value. I value and appreciate your time.

The blog is Tabletop-Tales’s first and primary source of content creation and dissemination. I am a fan of blogs, you can read them from just about anywhere (anywhere you have cellular coverage anyway!), they consume minimal bandwidth, RSS aggregators are useful, and there is something just plain unique about the written word. In the future, we may opt to include videos and other forms of content creation and dissemination. The blog will be focused on modern tabletop games but there will be notable exceptions including classics and even digital platform highlights.

The Modern Tabletop Era

Board games have advanced practically under our collective feet with few realizing it. While popularity has increased for board games, it remains a niche hobby. In the software industry, we often discuss the topic of modernization. Board games have certainly modernized. Let me briefly outline just a few of the ways in which the modern tabletop has evolved.

  • Crowdfunding Campaigns - User-Driven “Funding Rounds” for New Board Games including Remakes.

  • Digital + Cardboard - The Prevalence of Mobile Devices Gives Game Designers a New Canvas, for New User Experiences. This includes Digital Tabletop Gaming Devices.

  • Dynamic Gaming Systems & Mechanics - Deck Building, Worker Placement, Sandbox, & Others. Modern Tabletops Often Include Multiple & Mixed Mechanics.

  • Multiple Modes of Game Play - Campaigns, Cooperative, Competitive & Solo. All in a single box.

  • Portable Board Gaming - Board Gaming in Tow. Modern Tabletop Games Often Have Portable Versions and/or Are Built Specifically for Travel.

  • The Rise of Solo Board Gaming - Solo Board Gaming is Gaining Traction. Modern Tabletops Provide Solo Game Modes.

In summary, board games are having a moment, actually an era.

And a Few More Words

I am focused on unique and valued content creation, for folks just like me, who enjoy modern (and classic) tabletop gaming. I have a professional background in the software and database industries, have a wonderful loving family and much enjoy skiing and hanging out with friends and family at the local lakes. I grew up playing video games, like many in my generation, and for the past three years I have found modern tabletop games to be a much richer experience. I can certainly share more over time. For now, the focus is on the content.

Until Next Time, Enjoy the Tabletop.
