Crowdfunding Champions - 3.9.24

New Crowdfunding Coverage Features

I am covering only the best crowdfunding board game projects each-and-every week. Five games a week seems a little less like “champions” are more like “what’s good this week”. So I am reducing the number of weekly winners from five to three. And in more recent posts, I am not repeating games from prior weeks either. On another related note I have dedicated three categories to each week’s winners: Family, Advanced and Explorer champions.

I am also including links to relevant YouTube videos so you can see the project in action. Lastly, I am injecting more critical content into all my posts. Critical meaning, a spade is a spade. If something looks good, it’s good. And likewise, if something looks not so good, then it’s not so good!

Crowdfunding Champions is designed to provide a concise list of the best crowdfunding board game projects each week.

Family Champion.

Candy Hunters - 14 Days

Candy Hunters is a one to four player game for both young and older gamers alike. Players are creating patterns of tiles while avoiding ghosts.

I picked this game because of it’s wide age range of players. This looks like a solid choice for parents looking for an enjoyable family game night title. A second strong point is price, we are talking a top tier pledge coming in at $38.50 USD. And the publisher is advertising an October of 2024 delivery date for this coming Halloween.

With the low price of entry comes a game that is going to be limited in terms of volume of enjoyment. There is a solo mode leveraging designated cards with a number of points to obtain to help some. This is a light game, you know what to expect.

Consider backing Candy Hunters if you are a serious gamer who has kids.

Advanced Champion.

Dying Light - 10 Days

Dying Light is a cooperative one to four player modern zombie board game. Think Zombicide with a day and night mechanic, with less focus on killing and more on maneuverability and accomplishing objectives.

I picked Dying Light because this is a project advanced gamers should seriously consider backing. The 3D buildings and walls give the game a strong table presence. The minis look amazing and the day and night mechanic has done well in the board game community.

With less of a focus on combat the game may not be as enjoyable as some fans think. Keep in mind that games like Zombicide focus on combat while achieving goals. Dying Light is focusing less on combat and more on achieving goals. Yes, there is combat to be clear.

Consider backing Dying Light if you enjoy modern zombie and solo games as an advanced gamer.

Explorer Champion.

Ocean Slayers - 19 Days

Ocean Slayers is a modern take on the sandbox genre using a hidden tile mechanic. This is an oceanic version of some of the best sandbox games in recent times.

I picked Ocean Slayers due to it’s high quality components and artwork. It offers several modes of game play. And it’s a twist on a modern sandbox board game, which is one of my favorite genres. It’s also a fairly compact box for supporting up to six players.

What I do not like is there is zero true solo mode (big red flag for me). The base game’s components are OK at best. The premieum components I reference above come via the all-in pledge. The all-in pledge is coming in $231 USD.

Consider backing Ocean Slayers if you enjoy sandbox games and have atleast one other advanced gamer you can enjoy this with.

That’s a Wrap

I hope you enjoyed the new format for Crowdfunding Champions. The reduction from five to three games forces me to cover only the best projects. This also means you may want to check elsewhere for a broader selection of projects being covered.

Until Next Time, Enjoy the Tabletop.
